MISSISSIPPI MUD

MISSISSIPPI MUD

Mississippi's mud has long inspired many works of art. From the blues to pottery, fine cotton to soybeans; legendary writers, and of course, that famous dessert. Seems that the state's land is a breeding ground for a number of delightful, useful things. Some of the finest ceramics are spun and molded from this southern clay today, and the artists responsible for these collectibles are steadily making a name for themselves while their products migrate to tasteful homes across the country. There are many talented ceramists with thriving businesses scattered about Mississippi that are worth exploring, and here are just a couple of our favorites:

Peter's Pottery     This family-run business has been creating a gorgeous array of ceramic sets and pieces for years. Peter's doesn't offer a catalogue since no two pieces are alike, but their website is visually appeasing enough. Custom orders can always easily be requested, and their collections are found in a number of boutiques in major southern states. Peter's specializes in sweet animals, tablewares, lovely bowls and candlesticks. All are oven, microwave, and dishwasher safe.

McCarty's Pottery     Housed in an old, family-owned barn in the Mississippi Delta, McCarty's unique ceramics are still made to this very day. Known for their simple, yet elegant pottery and glazes, the company has received international praise, awards and recognition. McCarty's offers whimsical little owls, bunnies and birds, along with beautifully paired place settings and various tablewares. Their pieces are as stunning sitting in a hutch as they are covered in food after a nice meal. All wares are also safe in heating, cooking and cleaning.

Unique pottery, especially from those cities and states a little under the radar, serve as perfect, exclusive gifts and collectables. For that entertainer / homemaker in your life, discover what's coming out of the south for lovely, handmade tokens worthy of conversation.
