Not since the fifties has classic menswear been so focused, so time-honored and respected by designers and fashion lovers of all genders, all over the world. Perhaps the heavy concentration on the ladies and what women would wear all these years grew a tad stale and uninspired, no time is better than now to give the style spotlight to the boys.
Many fashion forecasters could see the focus shifting from ladylike ensembles over to more masculine silhouettes of seasons past, with menswear inspired looks for the gals to overall androgyny and gender mashups on the runways and popular streets about town. It's really no surprise that menswear is winning the popularity contest with designers these days considering the sudden near nudity craze with female celebs on every red carpet event, or star-studded Instagram feed. Women are leaving their beautiful clothes at home today, while the men are paying closer attention to getting dressed than we've seen in decades. It's truly refreshing really, and completely undeniable. Menswear is having a big moment.
New York will host its first-ever men's fashion week this July, a mere month before the hype of the traditional women's week kicks off. After rising popularity and attendance-demand of London's Men's Fashion Week the past few seasons, NYC will set out to debut a male driven fashion fete all her own. There's heavy speculation floating about the style set however, debating whether or not this exclusive event will really bring in the interest and hype that the ladies' do, but I'm willing to bet the guys will deliver. Again, menswear has never been hotter--even for the girls, and we are on the cusp of a serious change of interest from the fellas and their wardrobes. Men are steadily starting to care about the way they dress again; selecting garments that have been responsibly made while carefully pairing smart pieces together for original, effortless style. Fashion blogs are laden with vintage inspired gentlemen's clothing reminiscent of generations past when men got buttoned up just to take a walk around the block. It's a welcome reprieve, and more than appreciated to see a fashionable fella pass you by. Look out, ladies. You've got some catching up to do.
