Information is provided to us through the ease of a million apps, online gossip outlets, email newsletters and countless TV channels today with lightening fast speed before breaking news stories even "break". Need to know what's going down from country to country, take your pick of advanced tech-forward sources just waiting for your clicks and shares by the plenty. With so many choices, choosing an honest, unbiased outlet with everything you need to know in one fell swoop can be overwhelming to say the least. This is why theSkimm is pretty brilliant.
Started only three years ago by two twenty-somethings from the couch they shared, theSkimm is a daily newsletter consisting of miniature breakdowns of the most current, worldly topics and issues at hand, sprinkled with a few pop culture tidbits and political happenings--all in one single page. TheSkimm takes the massive amount of time required for dissecting all of the news around the world and packages it neatly for a one-stop-shop of cultural information so you don't have to. They've already skimmed over every media outlet to deliver a briefing directly to your inbox before you've even had the first cup of morning joe. The twenty-somethings were both NBC News producers so journalism and global events are their specialties. What also makes theSkimm quite unique is the tone. The writers are quippy and prolific, delivering the most mundane topics in a more entertaining manner than simply hashing political jargon.
Media outlets are constantly evolving and becoming more mainstream by the second. Startups delivering the daily news must be more than just "catchy" to single themselves out from the rest of the crowded pack. TheSkimm has certainly found and developed this niche quite nicely. We're excited to see where the times (pun maybe intended..) takes them.
